The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a nonprofit research and educational organization, said Tuesday that it was making its computer program that assesses the ability of older drivers available free online.The program, Roadwise Review, is designed to help older drivers test their abilities through exercises that measure eight physical and mental areas that can predict crash risk, like memory, visual processing speed, leg strength, and head and neck flexibility.
Roadwise Review was originally released nearly five years ago by AAA as a computer program and distributed through its network of clubs. Some clubs gave the program away, others charged up to $15.We havent made any substantive changes, Peter Kissinger, president and chief executive of the AAA Foundation, said of the online version. It’s free and easier to use. In the original version, for example, exercises had to be done sequentially. The new version allows users to pick sections as desired.
The program allows users to check their driving skills at home. The online version automatically uninstalls itself after use, but allows users to save results. No personal data or scores are reported, so results remain confidential.
